Analysis by Adam Wingard:
Alf is clearly being represented as a christ like figure. The baby above his head symbolizes the washing away of sins as Alf suffers on the hell of the cross aka planet earth. You will notice that the children are innocently holding Alf in place as he seems to shriek in terror. Their sweet naivety is reflective of the brainwashed Roman people that unknowingly crucified the space being sent to redeem them. The parents hover above everything knowing and seeing all, they are the catholic church clutching the baby aka the worlds salvation just out of reach and out of sight of the Romans below. It should lastly be noted that the father seems to be giving the camera/humanity the finger. This obscene gesture is the real give away of the portraits true intent. We are enslaved by those that control everything and it is they who persecute us and hold the keys to peace over our heads.

You don’t even understand how much this message means to me. I feel like this movie is my baby and I am trying so hard to get people to see it because it really is one of the best movie experiences I have had in a while. So happy you took a chance on it and that it surprised you in the best way. It has so much fun with itself and I have been addicted to the soundtrack ever since it came out. I don’t know what else I have to do to get this movie the audience it deserves but I am going to continue doing my thing and appreciate the hell out of people like you that do take that chance. Thank you for seeing it and for telling me how you feel.
Also Dan Stevens is a revelation with both his performance and his physicality, he took that role and ran with it for all its worth. What a breath of fresh air. I am so excited for him at this point in his career. I feel so lucky that I watched this movie with him in the audience.
In case you needed another reason to see The Guest - if you go this weekend, they’ll give you a free download of the killer soundtrack. It features lots of awesome synthy and gothy and synthy/gothy stuff like Clan of Xymox, Love and Rockets, Sisters of Mercy, Gatekeeper, Mike Simonetti, Survive and so much more. You can stream the whole thing on Rdio right now (and probably Spotify too), but trust me, it’s rad.
Just so we’re clear, you should see The Guest anyways. It’s probably the best movie I’ve seen this year. Don’t sleep on this one, kiddies.
